March 30, 2020Greetings from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church
In these extraordinary times when we cannot gather as a Christian Community to celebrate Mass, let us unite ourselves spiritually to the Mass as it is being celebrated in our churches. As Christians, We believe, the difficult times will pass away and enjoy the spirit of resurrection. We offer our prayers on our altar and you receive the blessings in your living room because we believe that it is the same faith which Jesus performed miracle unites us together. Our ultimate desire is to share in eternal life with the risen Lord
We have prepared a prayer service for the 5th Sunday of the Lent and attached with this letter. The Archdiocesan Communications Centre online Mass in Kannada at 7 am, English 9am and Tamil 11am.
We are encouraged to follow Holy Mass online or to have a prayer service at home and to receive Holy Communion Spiritually. And now what is the Spiritual Communion? It is a Christian practice of desiring union with Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. The practice of Spiritual Communion was noted by St. Pope John Paul II, he explained that practicing this constant desire for Jesus in the Eucharist is rooted in the ultimate perfection of Eucharistic Communion which is the ultimate goal of every human desire. The practice of spiritual communion has been especially used by Christians in times of persecution and in times of pandemics.
Saint Teresa of Jesus wrote: “When you do not receive communion and you do not attend Mass, you can make a Spiritual communion, which is a most beneficial practice; by it the love God will be greatly impressed on you.”
And now coronavirus pandemic, faithful are unable to celebrate the Eucharist and participate in the Holy Communion, therefore Church encourages them to desire for the Spiritual Communion. Let us heed to the teachings of the Church and grow deeper in our relationship with our Lord during this miserable, fearful and anxiety situation. May the Eucharistic Lord who promised us “I am with you always till the end of the world” (Mt 28:20) will give power to us to face this difficult situation.
SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER (St. Alphonsus Liguori)
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
